SAFETY FACTORS

Capacitors whenever energised operate continuously at full load or at various loads as a result of voltage and fr equency variations.

Safety Factors in Design Parameters

Over Pressure Disconnector Design: In aluminum cans, during operation internal heat generated due to any reason builds up gaseous pressure. In these special design the aluminum container is bevelled and curled at the top portion with a gap of about 10-15 mm which will expand due to internal pressure and disconnects the live terminal of the capacitor from the circuit. This prevents any possible risk of bursting and damage to the surrounding components or the motor itself.

Flame Retardent Resin: Special care has been taken to manufacture capacitors when the application is of continuous duty type without any cooling time for the capacitor to keep the internal heat at lower temperatures. However due to electrical system problems like over currents/transient spikes may result in puncturing the dielectric, resulting in burning of the capacitor. In such situation the encapsulation takes care of restricting the fire within the container itself and prevents damage to the surroundings.

Environmental Protection: Protective devices as required by the relevant standards of BIS and also international standards are provided for specific application in order to prevent the damage which external surroundings can cause to the capacitors. General causes are of deposition of water vapor between live parts, fine metallic dust particles are a few examples which can contribute for this type of problem. It acts as a safety device against atmospheric and environmental hazardous conditions.
